Welcome to The Dev Shack (Previously Known as Magnetion Blog)

Good morning everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have a new name and URL for what was named the Magnetion Blog. This also gave me the opportunity to move the blog from Typepad over to WordPress. The new name of the blog is The Dev Shack and the new URL is [...]

Use Firebug Outside of Firefox

I know that many of us know and use Firebug a lot. It’s a very good little debugging extension that plugs into Firefox. I saw a post on MakeUseOf.com yesterday about Firebug Lite, which provides most of the basic features of Firebug and allows it to be ran from almost any browser. All you need [...]

Lewis Hamilton and the RC Office Grand Prix

The video below is awesome.  It starts off with a guy who created an app to control his RC car with his Blackerry Storm. Make sure you watch it half way through to see what the McLaren Formula 1 team added to this video.

10 Features That Will Make Twitter Better

I came across this blog post from Six Revisions that discusses 10 features they would like to see added to the Twitter web interface.  I had never used Twitter until a couple of months ago, but I am hooked.  While using it, I can say that the first gripe I had was the web interface [...]

Deterring a Cyber Attack?

One of my favorite blogs is Danger Room.  It's great reading for all things related to national security.  Today they had a post on cyberattacks and raised the question if the United States was ready to defend against one.  Paul Kurtz, a cyber security veteran of the Clinton and Bush administrations, doesn't think we are.  [...]

To go along with the post earlier on the updates to the Facebook terms of service, I came across this post from the folks at AllFaceBook.com.  It covers their 10 privacy settings that Facebook users should be aware.  So if you are a user of Facebook check these out to see if any are useful [...]

Facebook Owns Your Data, All of It!

I am sure most of you have heard by now that Facebook slyly updated it's terms of service on February 4th.  Most people probably never read such things when they signed up for accounts on the web, but if you are  user of Facebook you may want to read the updated terms of service and [...]

Time: Top 25 Best Blogs 2009

Time has released their yearly list of the top 25 blogs.  It's always interesting to see what the popular blogs are and why they deem them as so.  They also list their top 5 overrated blogs and why they are on the list.  One of my favorites Lifehacker made the top 25.

Facebook is for Old Fogies

Read this little article from Lev Grossman at Time.  It's a funny list of why he says Facebook is for the middle aged generation.  The best one is #3: "We never get drunk at parties and get photographed holding beer bottles in suggestive positions. We wish we still did that. But we don't." Ha!
