Most of you know that my favorite Twitter client for my BlackBerry has been UberTwitter. I started using it since their first beta release and have been an avid user ever since. Yesterday saw a new update to the application, Beta 4. Two items included in this update jumped right out at me.The first is the support of multiple accounts. I have been waiting for one of these apps to add support for multiple accounts for awhile now. I have various Twitter accounts set up for different interests and it has always been a pain to have multiple Twitter applications installed on my BlackBerry. This new feature seems to work well so far. You can set up as many accounts as you wish and each are viewed independently (meaning the timelines for each account are not combined). It’s very easy to switch between accounts and this switch occurs fairly fast.

The second feature, and the one that seems the biggest gripe for most users, is the addition of advertisements. At the top of the timeline is a rotating ad, with mine mostly showing a Yahoo ad. This addition to the application could be a downfall for some users, and cause them to go looking for another app to use. Reading around a bit it does appear that UberTwitter plans to release a paid application which would remove the ads. As long as the price is right, I would pay for UberTwitter, as it’s still the best Twitter application for the BlackBerry in my opinion.

Some of the other new features in Beta 4:

TwitVid support

You can block users

bit.ly integration

Faster photo uploads

One other quick note, I FINALLY received my beta invite to SocialScope this morning. A lot of BlackBerry users claim this as their favorite social media application, as it works with Twitter and Facebook. I will post my thoughts on SocialScope after giving it a run for a few days.

It appears as though Facebook is finally getting the hint about it’s API. The company announced today they have released the Open Stream API. This new API will allow developers to take advantage of all kinds of Facebook features. This same openess has worked wonders for Twitter, and I am sure Facebook is hoping for the same. In my opinion Facebook was forced to do this in order to keep up Twitter, as their service is growing like a wildfire every day. I for one, have stopped using Facebook on a regular basis due to this. I do not like having to log into their website (which is slow) to interact with certain features. I love Twitter because I have a plethora of desktop and cell phone apps to choose from.

On a related note Facebook has also announced an application built for Adobe AIR. Now I can’t wait for TweetDeck to update and use all the new Facebook features!

Big news was announced yesterday by Adobe and Facebook. They have jointly released an ActionScript 3.0 library for the Facebook API. This bundles the entire API into a prebuilt library ready to use on the Adobe Flash Platform. This is great news for the Flash/Flex developers out there, as previously it was up to you to write the code to hit the Facebook API. I believe this is also great news for the future at Adobe as well. In releasing this library they obvously see the importance of social media applications and how important these will be the in future. Hopefully this will lead to more integration into some of the other Adobe products. How about a cffacebook tag for ColdFusion?

TweetDeck has announced a new beta version of their AIR product that introduces Facebook integration. I downloaded it yesterday and have to say that so far it appears promising. You can now view status updates from your friends on Facebook directly in TweetDeck. When posting a new message you can choose to send it to Twitter, Facebook or both. Just remember that this release is a beta release, so use at your own risk.

Below is a quick screenshot of what the new message area looks like (notice the checkboxes for Facebook and Twitter).
